To the rebellious siblings –
We love you. We care for you. We’d do anything for you.
And you call us in distress. You call us as a last resort. You call us for help. You call from strange numbers we don’t recognize.
Do you know what you do to us? You send us into panic. We worry, relentlessly, for you. We hang up the phone and can’t wrap our minds around what you just said. We can’t breathe, we cry, we wish more than anything we could help you.
You don’t care though. Not in a bad way. You care about us, but you don’t really care or even fully know what it is you do to us. You just are going to keep doing what you’re doing. Because it’s your life and not ours. And we understand that. You are old enough to make your own decisions. We can’t stop you. And what good would it actually do if we could? No. You need to make your own choices.
I guess the point is simply this: know that we care about you. Know that we care more than we can say. Even when you need help and we can’t offer any, know that we love you deeply and fully and that will never change.
